Newsletter 4 - June 2023
Published on 09-06-2023
In this June newsletter, we introduce a new section called “Voices of RE-DWELL”, which is dedicated to raising public awareness of our network members’ views on the challenges of providing affordable and sustainable housing in Europe. In this issue, we feature voices from our non-academic partners, including construction companies, private and public developers, local administrations, research and advocacy groups, housing associations, as well as social and international organizations. By showcasing their viewpoints, we aim to go beyond the academic realm and offer valuable insights into the real-life challenges that can help us overcome the barriers hindering our societies from effectively facilitating affordable and sustainable housing for those in need.

Newsletter 3 - November 2022

Since our last newsletter in April, RE-DWELL researchers have been particularly active in disseminating their early findings in different contexts. A workshop organized in June at the International Social Housing Festival in Helsinki enabled participants to apply a holistic approach to the provision of affordable and sustainable housing through a use case. RE-DWELL was part of the ENHR conference this summer in Barcelona, with a presentation of the network and contributions from researchers in the different sessions. In the first year of activity, RE-DWELL researchers have made more than thirty contributions to international conferences; abstracts are compiled in a compendium and published on the website.
Individual research projects are underway, and the RE-DWELL vocabulary and the case study library are used to create links between them. Nine of our researchers have completed their secondments in partner organisations, and have shared their experiences on our blog. The work carried out by researchers was on display in an exhibition at the Valencia Chamber of Architects in September, which ended with a closing conference.
In parallel, RE-DWELL’s training activities have resumed with two more courses on “Research, Methods and Tools” and “Transferable Skills” now completed. Network-wide activities continued with the Summer School in Valencia (July 2022), which included our fourth roundtable dedicated to discussing participation in the provision of affordable and sustainable housing. The RE-DWELL conference in Grenoble is set to start on 8 December 2022.

Newsletter 2 - May 2022

The goal of RE-DWELL is to create a transdisciplinary research framework on affordable and sustainable housing. Step by step we are building links between 15 research projects carried out by early-stage researchers with multiple disciplinary perspectives. The workshops in Lisbon (September 2021) and Budapest (March 2022), together with the summer school in Nicosia (November 2021), have contributed to the development of the research projects and their networking. The collaboratively constructed RE-DWELL Vocabulary (already started) and the RE-DWELL Case Study Library (soon available) are two instruments designed for early-stage researchers to construct a holistic approach to contemporary housing. These researchers have started their secondments in partner organisations and have shared their experiences in the blogposts. The RE-DWELL Roundtable series already has already accomplished three sessions with recognized experts.
In June 2022, RE-DWELL will be participating in the International Social Housing Festival in Helsinki, with a workshop and exhibition. In July, the second summer school will take place at the School of Architecture, Universitat Politècnica de València. Finally, in December, we will have our first RE-DWELL International Conference, at Universitè Grenoble Alpes.
