Gerard van Bortel

Gerard is assistant professor of Housing Management at the TU Delft Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, department of Management in the Built Environment (MBE). As an educator and housing researcher Gerard specializes in the management, governance and finance of social and affordable housing. Within that domain Gerard focusses on improving the circularity and energy efficiency, cross-sector partnerships and the role of housing providers in supporting vulnerable places and people.
Gerard worked for 15 years as a practitioner in the Dutch social housing sector. His educational background is a blend of social housing architecture (BSc), organizational sciences (MSc) and network governance (PhD). Gerard is a supervisory board member of a large Amsterdam-based housing association and board member of the Dutch Tenants Union (Woonbond).
